Obertron Industries commenced operation in Hawera, South Taranaki in 1978 as a Plastics Electrical Products manufacturer and specialist provider of Industrial Electrical services. It has since grown into a five-division enterprise known as the Obertech Group, with a strong commitment to innovation and customer-centric solutions. This effort and achievement has been recognised with business awards such as the "1998 WestpacTrust Taranaki Business of the Year Award" and "Certificates of Excellence in Innovation and Manufacturing".
Obertech Groups five divisions provide a comprehensive range of products and solutions that span across a wide range of industries and customers, throughout the country. Our divisions include Manufacturing, Electrical and Instrumentation, Security, Computing (including Telecommunications and Office Supplies) and Technical which includes Computer Networking/Data Communications and Fibre Optics. Each division operates independently directly complementing each other and resulting in an overall synergy that provides integrated and complete solutions to our valued customers.
Obertech is focused on providing high quality products and services, having obtained Telarc Q Base certification in July 1997. We also place a major importance on safe working environments for our Team, Clients and the general public alike,. This is illustrated by our attainment of the "OSH Achievers" status in the OSH E.S.M. Program.
In 2001 an Electrical Division in New Plymouth was formed. The New Plymouth electrical division combined with Sullivan Electrical and a new company formed trading as Sullivan Electrical Ltd since renamed Obertech Electrical New Plymouth Ltd. This business unit is to provide electrical expertise to industrial, commercial and domestic markets throughout Taranaki.
In 2005 Payne Electrical (2005) Ltd was formed after purchasing an existing business Payne and Barlow in Waitara. Payne and Barlow traded for many years servicing the Waitara area and in particular Commercial Wiring of Chicken and Cowsheds.
2005 also saw the forming of the Powerworx a lines division servicing Taranaki providing design, upgrade and repair of overhead and underground power supplies throughout Taranaki. In July 2009 personnel and equipment were procured for routine Street Light Maintenance throughout Taranaki;
